The Public Protector was asked to probe the utility in June, when R185-million meant for drought relief could not be accounted for.

Several board members have since been dismissed.

Acting CEO, Mthokozisi Duze said they have been working hard to strengthen internal controls.

"We have concluded some of the cases and where the individuals were found guilty, we have now approached the courts as far as withholding their pension fund. In some cases, we are instituting civil claims to recover some of the monies against those employees. We are also happy that the Minister of Water and Sanitation has already started the process of putting the board in place," Duze said.
