The Department says it didn't expect thousands of unelected candidates or job seekers to turn up at the Dr Pixley Ka-Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital yesterday.

Assessment tests were prepared for only 250 seeking employment. HOD, Dr Sandile Tshabalala says police were called to control the difficult crowd.

"We are going to call on the people who are supposed to be interviewed going forward for the different posts. In our calling them, be telling them that when they come for their interviews and where they will be going."

In a statement, the Department of Health says While they understand that the rate of unemployment is high in the country, all citizens have a responsibility to, at all times, abide by the law, respect all processes and protocols, and respond to job assessment tests or interviews only when invited.

"The Department remains committed to opening the 500-bed Dr Pixley kaIsaka Seme Memorial Hospital, with a higher, regional-level package of healthcare services as soon as possible; as it will have massive benefits for Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu and surrounding communities, as well as the entire province of KwaZulu-Natal"
