They have held a protest at the Steve Biko Campus on the Berea.

It's one of four separate demonstrations that have taken place in KZN this morning. The SRC's Zabelo Nkandla says the group is demanding to be absorbed for an advanced diploma.

He says the students became angry when they were informed that changes had been made to the enrolment criteria.

"They registered last year as the Higher certificates and they were told they are going to be enrolled to a diploma once they have completed given the fact that they have accredited 50%."

They have already acquired and obtained that but the university has changed now and said a higher certificate is not an access call. So for them to be enrolled for a diploma they will have to produce matric results."

"You will understand that the reason why students opted for a Higher Certificate is that they could not qualify."

The varsity is yet to respond.
