Cause of Clairwood blaze yet to be established, says officials
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Officials are trying to establish what sparked the fire that destroyed around 250 homes at an informal settlement in Durban.
They suspect Friday's blaze in Clairwood, south of the city, could have been caused by an electric fault or a fuel, like paraffin.
eThekwini's disaster management officials spent yesterday assessing the damage.
The fire has left hundreds of people without a home.
The Disaster Management Unit's Acting Manager Malcolm Canham says they've been provided with emergency temporary accommodation for at least 10 days.

"Disaster Management has erected a marquee for temporary accommodation, the people will be housed in that.
"Red Cross has kindly assisted with a second marquee so that we can have a second gender separation when necessary and already there have been hot meals provided, we looked at our NGOs. Our relief task teams provided comfort - so blankets and mattresses."
Canham says they're working with other departments to help the victims get back on their feet as soon as possible.
