Call for policy review of joint home ownership
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
There are calls for a policy review on joint home ownership, particularly in gender-based violence and divorce cases.

Human Settlements Minister Mamoloko Kubayi says as things stand, women who are divorced or separated are being disqualified from homes that are fully subsidised by the government.
"We have to have an obligation to respond to women's pressing needs. This includes reviewing our policies in response to today's challenges facing our nation, such as GBV, which compels women to flee unsafe and abusive households to protect themselves and their children," says spokesperson Hlengiwe Nhlabathi-Mokota.
"The minister believes as women, we have women running to us, and we must be able to provide.
"So those engagements in terms of the policy we have ensued to look at what we can do and how we can assist women."
