Cabinet considering the proposal to extend lockdown
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) says Cabinet has received and is considering the proposal by Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to extend the Declaration of the National State of Disaster.
This comes a day before the expiry of the one-month extension of the Declaration, which expires at midnight on 15 August 2020.

The Disaster Management Act was invoked for the first time on the 27th of March due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
This led to the Declaration coming into effect and leading to lockdown.
Since then, Dlamini-Zuma has extended the Declaration twice. The first extension was from 15 June to 15 July, while the second was until 15 August.
COGTA spokesperson, Lungi Mtshali, says Cabinet will announce its decision before the current one month extension expires, either by late Friday or early Saturday morning.
However, it’s not clear whether this will be part of an expected address by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Expectation is mounting across the country that the President could announce the further lowering of lockdown to Level 2.
