Buthelezi takes aim at ANC: 'SA becoming poorer under this govt'

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder Mangosuthu Buthelezi believes the African National Congress (ANC) will destroy KwaZulu-Natal if it wins the majority of wards in the municipal elections.

Buthelezi addressed the party's final Siyanqoba rally in Ulundi on Thursday.

He said voters must think carefully before making their mark on Monday.

Buthelezi believes the evidence of decline is all around the province - and a change of leadership is desperately needed.

"Government is spending more than our country produces, which means we are going backwards instead of growing.

"Moreover, it is borrowing money just to service increasing levels of debt without having any way of paying it off.

"Any economist will tell you that the maths does not add up. South Africa is becoming poorer under this government."

ActionSA also held its final Let's Fix South Africa rally in Johannesburg.

President Herman Mashaba said our country cannot continue being the most unequal society in the world.

"We must ensure that every resident has access to electricity, clean potable water and sanitation.

"We must see to it that every RDP recipient has a title deed that can be passed to their children to help them unlock the limitless economic opportunities that lie in possessing legal title to property.

"We must ensure that our governments redefine the expectations of customer service, with residents who are treated as customers and city officials who are proud to be public servants."

He promised that, should his party be elected, it will grow the economies of cities and help create jobs.

"We are a party that is going to grow the economies of our cities and ensure that jobs are being created. By the cumulative sum of our actions, we will ensure that small business are thriving, because a job improves lives better than government ever can."
