Ten thousand South African National Defence Force (SANDF) troops will be deployed across the country, as part of the government's security plan ahead of Monday's elections.
President Cyril Ramaphosa says the army's presence will be visible from Saturday.
Parliament's spokesperson Moloto Mathapo says the deployment comes at a cost of R47.2 million to government.
"The employment is effective from 30 October to 03 November 2021 and is done in accordance with Section 201(2) (a) of the Constitution of South Africa of 1996 and Section 18 (1) of the Defence Act of 2002.
"The president has indicated in his letter that the number of the SANDF members employed for this service is ten thousand and is expected to incur an expenditure of R47 249 000.
"The letter of the president will be brought to the attention of the Members of Parliament through parliament’s official publications."
