Brake failure thought to behind PMB truck crash

It has emerged that brake failure could be behind a fatal truck accident in Pietermaritzburg.

The vehicle ploughed into two houses before coming to a stop at a third property on Howick Road on Tuesday.
Miraculously, those in their homes were left uninjured during the collision.
However, the driver of the truck and his passenger were left seriously entrapped in the vehicle.

When they were eventually freed from the wreckage, the passenger was declared dead at the scene.
The driver has been left in a critical condition.
Authorities say they've opened a case of culpable homicide.
It's believed that the vehicle's driver lost control after his brakes failed.
