Boy, 8, drowns in Umvoti River

An 8-year-old boy drowned while collecting water from the uMvoti River on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

It was understood that yesterday evening the boy fell into the river, which was only a meter deep, and drowned.
Some community members helped retrieve the boy's body from the river.
His mother was on the scene and able to identify his body.
An inquest docket has been opened.
