Booze blitz sees thousands of litres of illegal alcohol seized in KZN

Authorities in KwaZulu-Natal have seized over 1 500 litres of alcohol in Pietermaritzburg, Umlazi and Empangeni following an anti-crime blitz.

The operation was carried out over the weekend by the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority.
It also targetted illegal establishments selling liquor.
The authority says in Pietermaritzburg, four illegal premises were charged with dealing in liquor without a license in Plessislaer.
In Umlazi, south of Durban, seven unlicensed premises were charged with dealing in liquor.

The authority says seven people have been fined and charged.
In Empangeni in northern KZN, two licensed establishments were charged - the first for selling beyond trading times and the second for effecting structural changes without approval.
Seven illegal premises were charged with dealing in liquor without a licence and cases were opened.
