Body pulled from Umgeni River thought to be robbery suspect

A body, thought to be that of a robber who had been presumed drowned, has been retrieved from the Umgeni River in Durban.

Police say the body of the man was spotted floating near Connaught bridge by community members this afternoon.
The police's search and rescue team was notified and went to recover the body.
The police's Thembeka Mbhele says it appears the body is of one of the two robbers who were trying to evade arrest after a Greenwood Park business was robbed on Sunday.

"According to search and rescue officers the description is of the person who was reported to be an armed robbery suspect. The two suspects ran to the river while trying to flee police. The identity of the man will be revealed by the investigation," she said.
