Divers search for robbery suspect in Umgeni River
Police teams will scour the Umgeni River for a second day in search of a suspected robber who is believed to have drowned while trying to evade arrest.
It is believed he was part of an armed gang of six that held up staff and customers at a business in Greenwood Park.
They took an undisclosed amount of money as well cellphones from them.
It is also understood a customer was shot during the robbery but their condition is unknown.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says one suspect was arrested while two ran into the Umgeni River.
"Divers had to be called and one of the suspects was found hiding in the river and the second one is still at large. Police have opened a case of attempted murder, business robbery as well as possession of unlicensed firearms," he said.
