Bester saga: Nandipha Magudumana, co-accused remanded in custody

Magudumana and Bester, a convicted rapist and murderer, arrived back in South Africa under heavy police guard in the early hours of this morning following their arrest in Tanzania.

The pair had been on the run after Bester's cover was blown several weeks ago, nearly a year after he escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre by faking his own death. 

It's alleged Magudumana secured the body that was used as a decoy in the cell fire that Bester initially led officials to believe he had died in.

The doctor was joined in the dock by IT technician Teboho Dipholo, who is also accused of helping Bester to get out of jail.

Magistrate Mohlolo Khabisi postponed the matter to Monday.

"It will be for bail information as contemplated under the provision subsection 50, subsection 6 of the criminal law code and for possible bail application."
