Benefactors might pull back party funding: analyst

A political analyst says a court ruling that all political parties have to disclose their funders will probably create a dilemma for parties.
The Western Cape High Court made the ruling yesterday, saying the Promotion of Access to Information Act must be amended within 18 months.
Analyst, Sanusha Naidoo says this puts to bed an issue that has been a topic of debate for years.

She says it's likely parties will want to control how much information is disclosed.
"How this plays out with benefactors will be very interesting. It does put them in the spotlight. I think its going to open up a different level of vulnerabilities in terms of benefactors. Perhaps we may even see certain benefactors pulling back at certain points and large donations. Its going to create different levels of interpretation for benefactors," she says.
