Bathers urged to be water-wise as Easter holidays approach
Updated | By Algoa FM
Lifesaving South Africa is appealing to the public to be water-wise with the Easter holidays around the corner.
The organisation's president Dhaya Sewduth says they have noticed an increase in incidents.
"We want to ensure that bathing public do follow the advisory that they only go and bath where lifeguards are on duty, that they will bath in between the red and yellow flags, that they do listen to the lifeguard.
"The lifeguards are the ones who actually ensure that they choose the safest bathing zones at that particular time for the sake of the safety of the bathing public."

Lifesaving South Africa is calling for legislation that is aimed at preventing drowning tragedies.
Sewduth says the recent drowning of two Gauteng schoolboys who were in Durban for a rugby tournament - and the 2020 drowning of a Johannesburg pupil at a school camp are cases in point.
"We need to learn from these unfortunate lessons and ensure that there can be regulations, laws or compliance so that if somebody hasn't take the necessary safety precautions then there should be some consequence management, otherwise we will have these incidents repeat themselves and have an unfortunate loss of life from drowning when drown is actually preventable."
