Easter weekend set to add R160m into KZN coffers - Kaunda
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
At least 86 000 holidaymakers are expected to descend on our shores over the Easter weekend.
That's according to the eThekwini Municipality's projections for the long weekend from the 14th of April.
City officials are anticipating tourist numbers to double after the uncertainty over Covid-19 put a damper on activities and visits last year.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the local tourism industry will be given a much-needed boost, with visitor spending estimated to be in the region of R160 million.
This, he says, will, in turn, give KZN's GDP a major lift and create employment opportunities for around 800 people.

Kaunda says eThekwini's getting ready and is putting safety measures in place.
Durban Tourism is meanwhile embarking on promotional roadshows to showcase the city to tour operators from Mpumalanga, the Western Cape, and Gauteng.
They'll be given a taste of what Durban has to offer with visits to Aliwal Shoal, the historic Inanda heritage route and the Valley of 1000 Hills, among other places.
