Proceedings got underway yesterday with the man - who can't be named as he faces an unrelated rape charge - said he intends pleading not guilty to all 16 charges against him.

After taking the stand yesterday, he tore into local PI, Brad Nathanson.

The 29-year-old claimed that Nathanson and his staff had a narrative that they wanted him to play out on the January afternoon he was arrested at his Assagay home - near Hillcrest, west of Durban.

He claims they punched, kicked and choked him to get the password for his cellphone before going inside his home and searching it. The man also made claims against the police.

He said they wanted a confession or he would leave in a body bag. He testified that he was also suffocated with an evidence bag.

The court heard how Nathanson had allegedly shared his photo on Facebook before an identity parade was held. The accused will be cross-examined today.
