Authorities clear N2 at Mtubatuba

Police say officials are busy clearing a stretch of the N2 highway near Mtubatuba on the north coast, following a violent service delivery protest there this morning.

Scores of people barricaded the road, preventing motorists from moving through the area. Some people allegedly stoned vehicles.

Officers say at least two trucks were torched near Zamimpilo.

Other trucks were looted.

Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says a group of people were taken in for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

She says officers are are still in the area.

"The crowd has been dispersed. The freeway is now functioning. Cases of public violence and malicious damage to property have been opened for investigation," said Mbele.
