AU establishes COVID-19 Response Fund

President Cyril Ramaphosa says while the continent has lower rates of COVID-19 infection compared to other parts of the world - our weak health systems may result in the long-term impact of the pandemic on Africa being severe.
Ramaphosa on Wednesday was speaking at the International Labour Organisation's Global Summit on COVID-19 - whose focus is building a better future of work.
"The African Union has developed a COVID-19 strategy, and as part of that, it has established an AU COVID-19 Response Fund to assist member States in funding an effective response to the pandemic."

He says they launched the Africa Medical Supplies Platform last month.
"An innovation that will enable all countries on the continent to procure much-needed supplies in a much faster manner and competitive pricing.
"We are also engaged with international partners and institutions to mobilise substantial stimulus packages to assist African countries to rebuild their economies," says Ramaphosa.
