Attorney in AKA case accuses state of ‘rounding up’ client
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The attorney of one of the men accused linked to the murder of rapper AKA and Tebello Motsoane says her client denies any involvement in the murder.
"They are taxi owners, it doesn't mean that they are hitmen. They are taxi owners, that is all,” says Yolanda Gielink.
Five of the seven men arrested in connection with the hit appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The musician, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, and his former manager were shot dead outside Wish Restaurant on Durban's Florida Road just over a year ago.
The court heard that two charges of money laundering had been added to the charge sheet.
The case was postponed to next week for bail.

Gielink represents accused number three, Eddie Myeza, who, outside of this case, faces another murder charge in a separate case.
"He has got nothing to do with it. He was 20 when he was arrested, and now he is 21 with no previous convictions, but all of a sudden, you have got a lot of cases wrapped up against him,” she said.
When asked why she believes her client was taken, Gielink mentioned that all the accused have ties to the taxi industry.
"His dad used to be a taxi owner, and he passed away. There are a lot of taxi owners involved in this case, it means he was rounded up. I don’t think the two deceased have anything to do with the taxi industry, so it feels like an unlikely scenario to me. The gentlemen were earning enough money from their businesses not to take R200 000 to go shoot somebody and risk your life."
