KZN police have confirmed that a 39-year-old man was wounded at the Umlazi complex last night and is being treated in hospital.

They are investigating a case of attempted murder.

Meanwhile parliament's police portfolio committee is compiling its report following an oversight visit to the province last week to assess policing in some areas of KZN - hardest hit by crime.

On Friday, committee members stopped at the Umlazi police station.

They say the station and provincial team tasked have been ineffective with dealing with the crisis at Glebelands.

But provincial police told the committee they can't solve most murder cases because witnesses won't come forward.

"We are very disappointed about the recent killings that have taken place at Glebelands Hostel despite a lot of hard work by police and many other government departments and NGOs to bring peace and stability to the hostel," he said.

The police's Jay Naicker says they'll continue to monitor the area 24/7.

"There's a large police contingence around the hostel and we are appealing to communities to please make use of these police officers and report criminals that may be living in the Hostel."

To date, 92 people have been killed at Glebelands Hostel since 2014.
