Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says there's an urgent need for stricter food safety laws and thorough inspections at township tuck shops.

It released a statement after the deaths of two children who consumed a packet of biscuits from a spaza shop in Soweto last week.
Two other Grade 1 pupils were hospitalised.

Last month, some 100 school children received treatment after eating muffins believed to have been laced with dagga.
The ATM's Zama Ntshona says they find these incidents alarming.
"It is the duty of our government to ensure the safety of its citizens, and this extends to the food they consume. The ATM further advocates for stricter sector regulations, including measures to prevent undocumented foreign nationals from conducting business on South African soil."
