The blazes tore through the Mid-Illovo area.

"I cant explain the feeling that was going through all of us as farmers, because all you could see is your future going up in flames."

"There were certain farmers that we were literally trying to stop the fire, but the wind was so powerful that we literally had to put our hands in the air and decide to move on to the next farm to try and fight it," says Tiaan Malherbe.

Malherbe says about 16-kilometres of land in the Mid-Illovo area were engulfed by a series of fires on Sunday morning.

He says he lost 10 hectares of his sugarcane field.

Fifteen farms in the area were gutted.

The blaze ripped through parts of a private game reserve - killing some wildlife.

"A lot of my fellow farmers have lost a lot more that us. Our local lodge - the main lodge burnt down - the farmers lost a lost of the grazing lands."
