The community of Ashburton in Pietermaritzburg is reeling in shock
following the murder of a well-known gospel singer.
She was shot, allegedly by her estranged husband, on Saturday.
He has since turned himself into the police and will be appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
It's alleged an argument broke out between the pair at a party, and the woman's brother intervened and offered to drive her home.
Officers say they were stopped on Wally Hayward Drive, by someone who opened fire on the woman.
Ward 37 councillor Edith Elliot was among those who rushed to the scene after hearing multiple gunshots.

"It's a terrible tragedy and the main thing from our community side is the violence against women just before Mother's Day, it really shook our community terribly. They weren't people from our area, they were just attending a party, it's just so tragic.
“It was a birthday party, and the lady had fun. There are pictures of her, she was young and beautiful and had such a life ahead of her and is now cut short by domestic violence. It's terrible."
