Arson case opened following Chatsworth Mosque fire
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Police have confirmed that they're investigating a case of arson following this morning's fire at the Masjid-e-Mukhtar in Chatsworth.
No one was injured in the blaze but a storage room at the mosque in Croftdene was gutted.
Secretary of the Chatsworth Islamic Federation, Saleem Adam, says worshippers had already left the mosque after their morning prayers, when the fire broke out.
"Damages are quite extensive. Fortunately people just left the place and they went out and as soon as they left us, they attacked the Mosque," Adam said.
Adam says the community's hoping for swift arrests.
"We are concerned about it. We are actually very scared that this kind of thing has happened. We want the police to investigate and hopefully, we want to bring the culprits to book," Adam said.
