Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN police are searching for five armed robbers who stormed a jewellery store in Empangeni - on the north coast this morning.
Police say the suspects entered the NWJ at Sanlam Centre armed with hammers and a firearm. Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the suspects broke the glass before stealing an unknown amount of jewellery and watches.
"They fled the scene thereafter. The police are still looking for these suspects and a case of business robbery has been opened for further investigation," he said.

According to national operations manager for NWJ, Gabriel Vosloo, three employees had been inside the store at the time of the robbery.
"Nobody was injured, fortunately. That's the best news that we received today. We normally arrange counselling for them after any incidents of this nature. Our centres are doing what they need to do in terms of security. The way this criminal mind seems to be operating at the moment is something we will need to address going forward," he said.
