Arguments, revenge killings blamed for high KZN murder rate
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The KZN
police commissioner says arguments and revenge killing are two of the main
reasons for the high murder rate in the province.
Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi spoke at the KZN's Crime Prevention Summit on Friday.
He says road rage and drinking are also some categories they are looking at as factors.
"As we see 1700 cases in this past financial year alone, this is a reporting period of April and March this year. This number of murders occurred as a result of these incidents, 713 people died because of revenge. You step on my toe and I give an eye for an eye."

He says these crimes seem to happen in residences.
"When you look at the big numbers 2924, 2621, 1600, 2000, all of them are happening at residence. So which means people are behind bars they are in a place where they are supposed to be safe."
