KZN MEC for Transport and Community Safety Sipho Hlomuka has
appealed to the protesting community of Nkandla to end a week-long strike and
open the town to economic activities.
Hlomuka met the protesting community on Friday.
Protestors, who are angry at the state of the provincial roads, have shut down the CBD since Monday.
The violent protests have seen the disruption of schooling, the destruction of properties and a mobile ambulance, and the limiting of movement of people.
The protesters further also 13 mobile health workers, while other private vehicles were also set alight.

In a statement, Hlomuka acknowledged that most provincial roads have reached their lifespan, while some were affected by heavy rains and the increase in trucks and vehicle population.
He says plans of fixing and upgrading the roads are underway with engineers being already appointed and have begun work.
