This brings to 93, the number of people gunned down there in the past three years with many of the murders believed to be politically motivated.

SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane is appealing to the residents of Glebelands to come forward with any information that could help police catch the 38-year-old man's killer.

"Last night, there was another shooting at Gleblands Hostel around 9pm. On arrival, police noticed that there was a man that was shot multiple times and he was already dead. The Umlazi police have opened a case of murder and there are no arrests made at this stage," he says.

Earlier this month, a 30-year-old woman was shot dead while doing her laundry at the hostel.

Meanwhile as the inquiry into political killings continued in Pietermaritzburg this week, the Moerane Commission has heard that public confidence in the police in the Estcourt area has become almost non-existent.

IFP member, Thokozani Dubazane has testified saying that political killings in the region have continued in part because the police fail to intervene.

He shared details surrounding the murder of former IFP councillor, Mcebisi Duma.

He believes Duma's life could have been saved had police acted on a tip-off they received an hour before the hit was carried out.

"I do not dispute that there are adequately trained but they are also easily bribed. When I think about it, if they have acted on the information they were given - they could have saved my colleague's life. Maybe it could be resources.

"They found out from one of those who had conspired to kill that a certain described car with occupants was on its way to kill my colleague. When he was killed on the P29, the nearest police stations were merely between three and four kilometres away.

The Pietermaritzburg leg of the commission wrapped up yesterday. It will continue in Durban on Monday where police watchdog, IPID is expected to respond to damning revelations made against it last week.
