The ANC Youth League in eThekwini says it wants to see swift police action after a video showing EFF leader Julius Malema discharging what appears to be a rifle at a event.

"We remember just recently, where the regional secretary of the ANC Bheki Ntuli's bodyguards were apprehended by police after brandishing a firearm in a video on social media. We do believe that the law, as done in the past, must run its course, and investigate," Youth League Regional Secretary Thintha Cibane said.

According to reports, the footage is from the EFF's fifth anniversary rally on Saturday in the Eastern Cape.

However, the EFF claims it wasn't a firearm and says no real bullets were fired. The party says the incident was a simulation and part of the celebrations.

Cibane says it is disturbing.

A well-known security boss from the Bluff - who is thought to feature in the video - has denied any knowledge of it.
