ANCYL hands over memorandum of demands to Ballito mall management
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A memorandum of demands has been handed over to the management of the Ballito Junction Mall by the ANC Youth League
About 5000 protesters took part in a demonstration today - calling for an end to economic exclusion.
The youth league's demands are clear: the participation of the people of KwaDukuza in their local economy, locals to own shops in the mall, and get first preference when it comes to employment; and for young people to supply agricultural products to major supermarkets in the municipality among other things.

Earlier in the day, it looked as if the protest had hit a stumbling block - when police temporarily barricaded Compensation Road - which leads to the new mall.
Once they were able to continue, protesters made their way to the mall, where police and mall security had been waiting.
The angry crowd then made their way to a lower entrance where they knocked down a gate that had been locked - while throwing rocks at the mall security on the other side.

Once the gate was down they aggressively rushed onto the mall's parking lot where they were addressed by leadership before a memorandum was signed by the mall's CEO, the mayor, and the ANC Youth League leadership.
The league has given the municipality 14 days to respond to their demands.
