The spokesperson of the different ANC branches, Ntando Khuzwayo briefed members of the media outside the Durban Magistrates Court yesterday.

"If you look at the nature of the charges and the process, how it's been conducted, it tells you that it's politically motivated. Automatically it translates to the ANC being put on trial. it's a burden on the ANC, it is a burden on how the party will come out in this process and we are saying we are going to defend the ANC here."

Gumede and 21-co-accused appeared in court on charges in connection with a multi-million rand Durban Solid Waste tender. The court heard that they are collectively facing 2786 charges.

Khuzwayo says the case against Gumede was solely created so that she would be removed as chairperson of the region and Mayor of the city.

"Those people achieved part of what they want. But what they are failed to prove now is they want to stop her contesting the outcoming conference."

"None of the things that are happening is coincidental. She is the forerunner and she will win overwhelmingly without any questions."
