ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the party is still waiting for feedback from Jacob Zuma on his suspension.

The former president was suspended last month for bringing the organisation into disrepute following his endorsement of the new MK Party ahead of the elections.

Mbalula says the NEC will implement its decision whether Zuma responds or not.

Zuma has remained mum on the decision but previously said he remains an ANC member.

At the same time, Mbalula referred to the use of the uMkhonto weSizwe name by the new party as daylight robbery.

He says it belongs to the ANC.

The MK party, already registered with the IEC, was launched in December.

Mbalula briefed the media on the outcomes of the NEC meeting on Thursday.

"We are taking that matter to the Electoral Court. It is at that Electoral Court where arguments have been filed, so we are in court now. We expect the court to give us further direction on the matter, that's where we are.

“The one on the trademark will follow, maybe around March. This one is urgent because that Mkhonto Wesizwe is our colours, is our logo, is our slogans, so it’s meant to confuse the voter."

The Independent Electoral Commission has previously said Zuma is not eligible to register as a presidential candidate for this year's general elections, as he was sentenced to 15 months in 2021.
