ANC slams violent KwaDukuza protests

ANC members who protested in the KwaDukuza CBD recently say they regret the violent acts committed by some demonstrators.

Disgruntled members took to the streets, shutting down municipal offices and torching a car.

ANC's Ward 12 secretary in KwaDukuza, Bheka Dlamini apologised for the actions of some protestors.

"We would like to send an apology to the community around KwaDukuza who were affected. We did not mean [for this to happen]."

They protested against a claim that murder convict, Musa Zondi was going to be reinstated.  

The party has denied this.

Zondi is a former ANC regional secretary who was sentenced last year.  He is appealing the outcome and is currently out on bail.

Dlamini says leaders with questionable backgrounds taint the credibility of the organisation.

"This happened before he was elected as a regional representative. He should never have accepted because he had a criminal charge against him."
