ANC promises to get to the root of NEC leaks

The African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says National Executive Committee (NEC) members have expressed concern about a well-orchestrated and well-resourced campaign to sow divisions within the party.

"It noted that this campaign is actively aided by a few individuals from within the National Executive Committee itself, through leaks, deviant public pronouncements, protests and misinformation on social media.

"The NEC agreed to take urgent steps to investigate the leaks from the NEC and any organised campaign to subvert the movement and to take appropriate action," said Ramahosa.

Ramaphosa delivered the closing remarks on Monday, at the end of the special three-day NEC meeting.

He says the committee's agreed to take urgent steps and investigate who's behind the meeting's information leaks.

Ramaphosa's also named Jessie Duarte as the party's acting secretary-general following last week's suspension of Ace Magashule who's facing corruption charges.

He'd defied a 30-day ultimatum to step aside.

He's been advised to make a public apology for issuing Ramaphosa with a bogus suspension letter.

"The NEC furthermore instructed the Officials to advise the Secretary-General to apologise publicly to ANC structures and members within a set timeframe. If he fails to do so, the ANC will institute disciplinary procedures in accordance with the ANC Constitution."
