ANC denies fuelling uMngeni protests

The ANC in the Moses Mabhida region has rejected claims that
it's been fuelling the days-long community protests near Howick.

Demonstrators blocked the R617 and Mandela Highway for the third day on Tuesday, demanding electricity.
The DA-led uMngeni Municipality believes ANC members have been behind some of the volatile protest action.
The party's Njabulo Mtolo's hit back saying politics should be left out of the situation.
"Which is something we are not going to tolerate. Our position is that we need to deal with the issues instead of diverting attention on the people of ANC."
Residents in ward 11 want their power supply restored.
Umngeni says it's going to carry out house-to-house audits first before fixing a blown transformer, caused by illegal electricity connections.
Mtolo has called for a community meeting.

"Any problem that confronts the community it requires dialogue, it requires engagement you can't condone people."
Resident Janis Holmes says while some locals are anxious, others have had enough.
"It's the anniversary of the looting that brought our town to its knees and to have an illegal protest in our town that's stopped workers in the Mpophomeni area, staff from coming to their jobs.
"It means that for the past two days almost half the businesses are closed, many residents are scared to go into town because of the protestors so they've stayed away. Businesses are suffering."
