ANC backs Lindiwe Zulu amid latest SASSA debacle
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The ANC has defended Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu following the recent payment glitches, which affected hundreds of thousands of the country’s poorest and eldest who rely on social grants.

Recently thousands of beneficiaries, mostly elderly pensioners, were disappointed to find that a payment systems glitch linked to Postbank resulted in them not getting their grant payouts.
The frustration saw many calling for the heads of Zulu as well as Technology and Communications Minister Mondli Gungubele.

During a media briefing on Thursday, the ANC’s Mahlengi Bhengu defended the two ministers.
"We all can agree, though, that the social security system, in general, has really proceeded uninterrupted for close to 30 years.
"We are going to be studying obviously what government has done to date, and if there is a sense that we are not moving with the speed of execution required, I'm certain that the relevant structures in the ANC will have to do what is necessary to occasion that."
