Thousands of recipients were left high and dry when they couldn't access their grant money earlier this month.

Postbank said it was due to a technical glitch that occurred to a system upgrade.

At a briefing in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon, Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Mondli Gungubele said all of the September payments had now been made.

He said Postbank and the South African Social Security Agency are working on a permanent solution to the glitches at Postbank.

Gungubele said the focus now is on the next payment cycle.

"Noting that we start with the October payment cycle in less than two weeks we have started preparing to ensure that we do not encounter challenges that were experienced by our clients this month.

"Our officials will continue engaging to ensure that we are ready to pay on time in the next month. The two departments and their agencies understand their incredible strain that the grants payment challenges that we experienced this month has caused."

The minister also said they'll be seeking legal advice over the conduct of the previous Postbank board.

The board resigned earlier this month after a forensic investigation by KPMG found irregularities in the contracting of some service providers.

"We need to be properly advised, but I think under normal circumstances the public is owed so that we close this thing that there is nothing that is being created in as far as those threats are concerned."
