ANC provincial chairperson, Siboniso Duma interrupted the speech of the Zulu traditional prime minister during the anniversary celebration of King Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo.

During his address, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, who is also an IFP NEC member, criticised the ANC and referenced a party member.

Duma who was the programme director then stood up and grabbed the microphone away from Buthelezi at the podium.

He has since apologised for his behaviour but his actions triggered violence at the event on Saturday which left 16 people hurt.

ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo says he has spoken to the king.

"We are blessed as the people of KwaZulu-Natal; we are blessed as Zulu people that we have got a king like him.

He was so humble, and I said to him we want to come as the ANC as we know the customs and our culture. What has happened in KwaCeza was not supposed to happen in your presence. We are coming to you, to bow to you and apologise of which he agreed and welcomed it with enthusiasm."
