Analyst: Ramaphosa must treat cabinet members equally
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
A political analyst says President Cyril Ramaphosa must apply discipline evenly across his cabinet.

This follows the dismissal of the DA's Andrew Whitfield, who was serving as the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.
In a fiery address in parliament on Thursday, DA leader John Steenhuisen claimed he was axed after going on an unapproved trip to Washington in February.
Steenhuisen accused Ramaphosa of having double standards, calling the reason a flimsy excuse to axe Whitfield.
"The president unilaterally removed a DA deputy minister without even giving his largest coalition partner an opportunity to discuss it with the member or his party."
He gave Ramaphosa an ultimatum - demanding he fire ANC Ministers and Deputy Ministers implicated in corruption.

Analyst Professor Sipho Seepe says while Ramaphosa is trying to assert authority and curb disorderly conduct, the DA has a right to point out the inconsistency.
"If the president is so concerned about what you call protocols, if he is concerned about the image and the integrity of the executive, he cannot be seen being bias or prejudicing certain people."
