AMCU calls for an end to mass retrenchments

Mining and construction union, AMCU is calling for an end to mass retrenchments in the mining industry.
Union members embarked on a mass demonstration in Durban on Tuesday to raise awareness around job losses, pay concerns and the treatment of workers in the industry.
The march formed part of AMCU's nationwide campaign, with similar protests taking place in Pretoria, Polokwane and Welkom.
Regional chairperson, Ndabenhle Mncwabe says members from across the province took part in the march.
"In fact, in all the sectors and industries in South Africa, we have seen a lot of retrenchments and the liquidation of companies. Also, many employees do not get the benefits that they deserve in the workplace," he said.
He said they are also concerned about a lack of skills development for people already in the workplace.
