Almost 60 KZN healthcare facilities damaged by floods - Simelane

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane says the torrential rains in parts of the province have damaged at least 58 healthcare facilities.
Simelane says clinics and hospitals have been seeing a higher number of trauma and emergency patients than usual – particularly in the densely-populated districts.

The storms and flooding have left almost 400 people dead and thousands homeless.
Simelane says the damage has been disruptive.
"The damage that has been done by these floods in our different facilities, when you look at Ugu as a district, we have more than 15 facilities that have been affected."

"Some of the roofs have been pulled off the facilities. In other areas, there is damage that will really need a lot of money to actually rebuild. When you go to eThekwini, you find that just above 20 were damaged."
