KZN floods: 264 schools damaged, 25 pupils' lives claimed

At least 264 schools in KwaZulu-Natal have been damaged, while 25 pupils and a teacher have died from the recent devastating floods that battered our province.

This is according to the provincial Education Department. 


The department's senior management sat for a special meeting on Friday to discuss a way forward, with schools expected to reopen on Tuesday.

The department's spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they have already decided on some immediate interventions.


"Out of the 264 schools, 53 of those schools are going to be needing mobile classrooms immediately when we reopen on Tuesday. 


"So we were discussing how we can quickly source that so we can provide the schools as soon as possible."
