Alleged UKZN student killer to undergo psychiatric evaluation

The man accused of the murder of a
fellow UKZN student will be referred for psychiatric evaluation, to test his
fitness to stand trial.
Khayelihle Nzimande was arrested over a week ago, just metres away from the burnt remains of BCom student, Samkelo Zondi.
Nzimande allegedly killed Zondi and set his body alight in a bush near the Westville campus.

The 25-year-old made his second appearance in court on Monday.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says it was recommended that Nzimande be sent for psychiatric evaluation for 30 days.
“The accused appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate Court where the matter was postponed till 5 November, this is for the State to make psychiatric evaluations of the accused.”

While the motive for the killing is not yet known, a video has been widely shared on social media.
It purportedly shows the suspect confessing to the murder and referring to the victim as a, "zombie."
