Alleged mastermind behind multi-million KZN housing scam in the dock

KwaZulu-Natal police are appealing to anyone who may have been the victim of an elaborate housing scam to please come forward.

A 48-year-old man and five women, accused of defrauding people across the province, lined up in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
They allegedly stole some R18 million in cash over a period of eight years.
KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the man is said to have run ads in newspapers saying that his company's building houses at reduced fees.
He and his co-accused allegedly sold houses that didn't belong to them.

Officers tracked him down in the Eastern Cape.
"He would defraud the unsuspecting clients and disappear after a deposit was made.
“He was operating his fraud business at Durban CBD, Point, Pietermaritzburg, Kokstad and other areas where he had defrauded people since 2013.
"The five females were assisting him in running the business around the province. He moved to East London where he continued his dirty deeds."
