All water activities have been banned at eThekwini Municipality's beaches.

The city has closed the beaches until further notice following the recent heavy rains that left the water in murky conditions.

Spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo says the KZN Sharks Board has advised them that the rains have washed logs and other debris into the sea, while other unsafe objects have broken some of the shark nets at most beaches.
"All water activities are prohibited. However, residents can still enjoy other activities along the beach that do not require them to come into contact with seawater.
"Beachgoers are urged to heed this warning. Teams are hard at work fixing the nets and infrastructure that was damaged by the heavy rains. The city apologises for the inconvenience."
