Alfred Duma municipality vows to repair roads before schools reopen

The Alfred Duma Local Municipality says road repairs will take priority in their efforts to restore order in Ladysmith.

This comes after heavy rains in the past two days caused damage on several infrastructure.
Scores of families had to be evacuated from their homes and moved to community halls due to flooding in the CBD.
Some of the roads, including the N11 between Newcastle and Ladysmith, had to be temporarily closed to mitigate the risk.
Mayor Zama Sibisi says they are picking up the pieces before schools open next week.

He has also expressed concern about people who disregarding officials warnings.
"Even now electricity in some of the areas has been affected in some of the areas. We experienced very heavy rains. Due to the storm some places do not have electricity and our network has been affected.
"I want to also appeal to those who can help, by providing meals and blankets to those people who have been evacuated. People's houses have been damaged they do not have anything, their grocery have been destroyed. We need a lot of help."
