President Jacob Zuma  unveiled a memorial near the grave of the former ANC president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

He has told dignitaries and other guests that the ANC evolves with the times.

"The ANC of John Dube was not like the ANC of Mandela and Sisulu because times had changed. The ANC is capable of adapting to new conditions," he says.

Zuma says he has no doubt that Luthuli would be disheartened by the persistent levels of poverty, inequality and unemployment in the country.

However, he feels Luthuli would be encouraged by the progress government has made.

"He would be pleased that the country has almost reached the universal primary education threshold ahead of many other developing countries. He would also be happy that we have managed to expand our social safety net in terms of housing, social grants and the provision of basic services," Zuma says.

Meanwhile Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has acknowledged Luthuli as being one of the key contributors in the fight against apartheid.

"This memorial was officially unveiled by His Excellency, President Jacob Zuma on 21st of July, 2017," Mthethwa says.
