Alarm over plans to close Virginia Airport
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The DA in Ethekwini has called for an urgent meeting with senior city officials on plans to close the Virginia Airport, in Durban north.
This was after the Ethekwini municipality started issuing eviction notices on Monday to
some of the aviation operator tenants to vacate the airport premises before 28
February.

The city plans to redevelop the iconic Durban airport into a mixed-use property.
The DA’s eThekwini deputy chief whip Nicole Bollman says they strongly object to the issuing of the eviction notices.
In a statement, she says the issuing of eviction notices came as a surprise as the development process, when it came into play, would have taken another 24 months to complete.
She says the Virginia Airport, as it currently stands, is a massive economic hub to the city and a Durban North institution.
